JUANCO. grew up in Caracas, Venezuela and graduated in Industrial Design at the Instituto de Diseño de Caracas. In 1998 he moved to Milan to attend the Master in design at Domus Academy, receiving maximum votes on his final thesis "New Order".
From 1999 to 2001, at Studio Dordoni, he worked on creative research projects for furniture design, objects, lamps and house accessories for Artemide, Minotti, Molteni & Co, Breil, D&G, as well as on merchandise display designs and packaging.
In 2002 he won the "Designboom & Sotheby's rocking chair competition" and the "Macef young design competition" prices.
In 2004 he formed a professional association with Lorenzo Bustillos, dealing with graphic work, interior and product design. Collaborating with Banal Extra, Diamantini & Domeniconi, Frida Kahlo Corp, Cut Milano, Cleaf, and Mycrom.
Since 2001 to date, he works as a freelance designer / 3d artist and collaborates with professionals of architecture and fashion houses like +ARCH, Studio Ortelli, VSM46, Armani, Missoni, Sergio Rossi and Piazza Sempione on diverse projects, store development, front windows, visual displays and tools.
Since 2010 he has been the Creative Director at Mavari Studio, based in Santa Cruz, California. Focused on the design of innovative and functional clothing, it's first project, the MAVARI Cloak, was successfully funded on Kickstarter, reaching 142% of it's initial goal. "Function guides Style" is its motto.
He has been project leader for diverse seminars held at Domus Academy Master Courses.Throughout the years he has participated in a wide range of projects, from design research for hi-tech companies such as Canon and Softbank Japan, to watch displays for Belstaff, or designing coffee cups made of industrial glass in Venezuela.
His works have been published in international publications such as Wallpaper, lnterni, Mood, Corriere della Sera, DON, Elle Decor, Elle Decoration, Financial Times and Repubblica.
The Spirit Bar in Milano, one of recent projects, has become one of the city’s “must”.
